COLUMBIA, S.C. — A Midlands woman who decided to splurge and buy a second $10 scratch-off lottery ticket ended up winning big.
The woman told South Carolina Education Lottery officials that she entered the convenience store, J and S Food Mart #8 at 5413 Forest Dr., initially wanting to buy two $10 scratch-off tickets but decided to only purchase one. When she scratched that ticket and it didn’t win, she said she wondered about the ticket she left behind.
“So I went back in and got it,” she said. “I scratched it and thought ‘Am I looking at this right?’ ”
The second $10 scratch-off won her $1 million.
She told lottery officials that she couldn’t sleep but will be paying off her debt and saving the rest for a rainy day.
J and S Food Mart #8 received a $10,000 commission for selling the winning ticket.
Odds of winning $1 million in the Million Dollar Mania game are 1 in 1,530,000. Two more $1 million prizes remain in the game.
