METRO officer grazed by bullet while searching for theft suspect, police say

The officer was taken to a hospital where they are expected to be OK.

HOUSTON — A METRO police officer is recovering after they were grazed by a bullet while searching for a suspect early Friday morning.

This happened near the Kashmere Transit Center, located at the intersection of Hirsch Road and Kelley Street, around 12:30 a.m.

According to the METRO Police Department, officers had been called to the transit center regarding a person claiming their cell phone had been stolen.

While searching for the suspect, police said a homeowner opened fire, believing someone was trying to break into their home. An officer was grazed by a bullet and taken to a hospital where they’re expected to be OK.

The original suspect was taken into custody in the surrounding area.

It’s unclear whether the homeowner who opened fire will face charges.
