McKinney, Texas named best city for renters

A fast-growing Collin County city was named the best place to rent in the U.S. by RentCafe.

MCKINNEY, Texas — McKinney is the best city in the U.S. for renters, according to a new study from RentCafe.

The North Texas suburb was praised for its relative affordability and quality of life, according to the study. It rose three spots in RentCafe’s rankings compared to last year, when it ranked No. 4, WFAA previously reported.

“Specifically, the city boasts a lower-than-average cost of living, a large share of high-end apartments, and consistent job growth, making it an ideal choice for renters seeking a small-town atmosphere without sacrificing the perks of a larger urban center,” according to RentCafe.

RentCafe, an apartment search website, compiles data and analysis on the rental market across the country. In a survey of about 150 cities, the analysts used 20 metrics to determine the top destination for renters. The metrics were focused on affordability, job opportunities, and a strong sense of community.

“McKinney also stands out for its excellent schools and desirable apartment locations,” the study states. “On top of that, renters can enjoy more than 40 parks.”

Southern cities claimed 41 of the 50 best cities for renters, according to the study. Other Texas cities in the top ten include Austin (No. 4) and Round Rock (No. 8).

Plano ranked 11th, Denton ranked 33rd and Fort Worth ranked 38th.
