He was arrested after leading police on a 40-minute chase through Houston and River Oaks. The Houston Police Department said officers with its gang division spotted the vehicle turn into an apartment complex in northwest Houston. They found Colvin there and arrested him about an hour after the shooting.
On Monday, July 7, Colvin pleaded guilty to aggravated assault of a public servant and elected to have a jury sentence him.
Flores testified that he stopped Colvin early that morning after hearing gunshots on Marina Bay Drive. Jurors saw bodycam video and learned that Colvin fired 14 shots at Flores, but only struck him once in the arm.
They also watched helicopter footage of the 40-minute chase that followed the shooting when Colvin led officers through Houston and River Oaks.
On Thursday, jurors sentenced Colvin to 99 years in prison. They added a maximum of 10 years for each of two additional charges of evading arrest and unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon.
The Galveston County District Attorney’s Office thanked the Clear Lake Shores Police Department, Galveston County Sheriff’s Office, League City Police Department, Kemah Police Department, and Houston Police Department for their work in this case.
