Man sentenced in 2021 fatal Austin club shooting after accepting plea deal

AUSTIN (KXAN) — A man was sentenced July 2 following a plea deal related to a fatal shooting in downtown Austin in March 2021.

According to Travis County court records, 26-year-old Adriean Dewayne Benn waived his right to a jury trial and entered a guilty plea.

Records showed Benn received a five-year deferred adjudication sentence on a charge of second-degree manslaughter. The charge was related to the death of 24-year-old Jorian Donte Hardeway, which occurred March 14, 2021, at a downtown Austin club.

In Texas, deferred adjudication is a type of probation that gives the person sentenced the opportunity to keep the conviction off their criminal record if they meet the terms of the agreement.

During the five years, Benn must complete 200 community service hours, join an anger management program, and provide proof of being employed or attending school.

Benn is also required to pay $6,500 in restitution, and he is no longer allowed to be in the downtown Austin area between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m.
