Man rescued after getting stuck in back of garbage truck in west Houston

Authorities said the garbage truck driver noticed the person in the back right before she was about to crush the load.

HOUSTON — A man is recovering after he got stuck in the back of a garbage truck early Friday morning, according to the Houston Fire Department.

This happened shortly before 4 a.m. along Westheimer Road near South Voss Road.

Authorities said the garbage truck driver noticed the person in the back right before she was about to crush the load.

“Before she crushed the hopper back to make more room for the next load, she noticed that individual rolling around inside the dumpster,” said HFD Captain Brian Zaharis.

Zaharis said the man was yelling that his legs had been hurt. HFD managed to pull the man out of the truck using a basket before setting him on a stretcher and taking him to a hospital.

It wasn’t immediately clear why the man was in the dumpster.
