A teen told rescuers that a wave knocked his friend underwater and he hasn’t been seen since.
SURFSIDE BEACH, Texas — Searchers in Surfside Beach in Brazoria County said they will keep looking for a man who went missing in the water on Monday.
Christian Jackson, 20, was swimming with a friend on Memorial Day. They were trying to reach a sandbar when they were hit by a wave, Surfside Police Chief Philip Hester said.
Hester said rescuers were called to the beach about 2:50 p.m. for a distressed swimmer. They spoke to a 16-year-old, who described the wave, then asked about his friend — that’s when they all realized there was still someone missing in the water.
A US Coast Guard helicopter and boat were used in the search on Monday, but then bad weather moved in, so it had to be called off that day, Hester said.
He said Texas EquuSearch has also been up and down the beach searching for Jackson.
Hester said they are continuing the search and have also used a drone that has a personal floatation device attached to it that can be dropped into the water for a rescue.
Hester said Jackson’s mother has come to the beach in hopes of finding her son.
