Man drowns in Lake Conroe

Authorities said the man started to struggle when he got in the water. His wife tried to help, but he didn’t resurface.

CONROE, Texas — A man drowned in Lake Conroe last weekend, and his grandchildren were on the boat when he went under and didn’t resurface.

Texas Parks and Wildlife officials said it happened Saturday.

They got a report that a 55-year-old man got into the water and started to struggle. They said the man’s wife got in the water and tried to help, but he didn’t resurface.

As that was happening, the boat started to move away from them with their two grandchildren on board.

The man’s wife held onto a float until she was picked up by someone who reunited her with her grandkids.

The man’s body was found a short time later.
