HARRIS COUNTY, Texas — A man is facing multiple charges after the Harris County Precinct 1 Constable’s Office said he shot and injured two dogs.

Constable Alan Rosen’s office said witnesses reported seeing 54-year-old Oscar Junior Johnson shooting at a group of stray dogs at an apartment complex in southwest Harris County.

Johnson was arrested and charged with two counts of animal cruelty, as well as being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Houston SPCA said its animal ambulance took in a total of six dogs from this incident. Two of them had suffered gunshot wounds.

“One dog had multiple fractures,” said Houston SPCA Senior VP of Veterinary Medicine Dr. Roberta Westbrook. “The other has a broken ulna. Both have gunshot wounds with entry and exit points.”

Rosen said his office is working alongside Houston police and Houston SPCA as an investigation into the shooting continues.

“If you suspect animal cruelty, please contact the Houston SPCA hotline at 713-869-7722,” Rosen’s office said in a Facebook post.
