Lockdown lifted after man found on roof of Alief ISD elementary school, district says

Alief ISD says students and staff were safe after an unidentified man was found on the roof of Cummings Elementary School in southwest Houston.

HOUSTON — An incident at a southwest Houston elementary school prompted a lockdown Monday morning after a man was found on the roof of the campus, according to Alief Independent School District.

In a message sent to staff and families, the district said Cummings Elementary School was placed on lockdown because of an “unidentified, non-Alief ISD male on the roof.”

The school is located on Kirkwood Road just north of West Bellfort Avenue in southwest Houston.

“First responders successfully removed him from the facility, and a local law enforcement agency will transport him,” the district said.

District officials said students and staff inside the building remained safe during the incident.

“Students and staff who were in the building during the incident were safe. The investigation is completed, the lockdown has been lifted, and the day will continue as scheduled,” the statement said.

The district also thanked responding agencies and school staff.

“Thank you to our Alief ISD Police Department, local law enforcement agencies, and the Cummings Elementary staff for their support.”

All additional questions about the incident are being directed to the Houston Police Department.
