Texas sports-bar chain Little Woodrow’s is diving belly-first into summer on Sunday, May 31, with its third-annual No Flips, All Flops Belly Flop Contest.
The event will take place at the Braun Road Little Woodrow’s, 9840 W. Loop 1604 North. Check-in opens at 3 p.m., and the first flop is set to hit the water at 5 p.m. The event will raise funds for the San Antonio Fire Department.
The chain is inviting San Antonians to bring their boldest, loudest belly flops to the pool. Entry is $10, and participation is limited to those 21 and up. Contestants will vie for cash prizes of $500, $150 and $50 for first, second and third place. The top three winners will also take home a wrestling-style championship belt.
Judges will score each splash based on size, creativity and overall “wow” factor, according to Little Woodrow’s officials. Meanwhile, spectators can expect a fun mix of crazy costumes and comedic form, along with the unmistakable sound of perfectly executed flops.
The event started at the chain’s Lubbock location in 2022. Kevin Fielder, regional director of operations for Little Woodrow’s, said the event is a fun way for the bar to bring together the community for a good cause.
“The event was the brainchild of our Lubbock location’s incredible team. With their pure genius, they pulled it together, and it has turned out to be such a success,” Fielder told the Current. “We’ve taken it outside of Lubbock to other locations of Little Woodrows around the state, and each time we do it, the crowd, the community, they love it.”
Participants are encouraged to register early, but walk-up competitors are welcome. With warm weather rolling in and bragging rights on the line, the stage is set for a sun-soaked showdown.
