Lee and Boutier embrace Texas roots at PGA Frisco

Top women’s golfers, Minjee Lee and Celine Boutier, consider North Texas a home tournament spot as they compete in the 2025 KPMG Women’s PGA Championship.

FRISCO, Texas — The best female golfers on the planet have converged at PGA Frisco for the 2025 KPMG Women’s PGA Championship.

While the event is held in the backyard of the PGA of America headquarters, it’s also a “home” tournament for a handful of contenders.

Two-time major winner Minjee Lee and world No. 15-ranked Celine Boutier hail from Australia and France, respectively. However, the two pro golfers have been residents of North Texas for close to a decade.

Lee resides in Irving while Boutier is based in Dallas.

“My first couple years were very tough because I didn’t know anybody and it’s a change of scenery, but I’ve been loving it more and more year after year,” said Boutier. “It’s a great place.”

Given all the travel demands of a professional golfer, the appeal of DFW was — and still is — undeniable.

“I think it’s nice because it’s so central,” Lee noted. “You can travel easily. You have such a big city. You can drive a couple of hours. Go to Austin. There are a lot of places that you can visit.”

Lee and Boutier are not the only LPGA golfers to have made North Texas their home.

Major winners Yuka Saso (Japan) and In Gee Chun (South Korea), as well as Thailand’s Atthaya Thitikul, are among the many others to own a house in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

“It’s a huge hub internationally, so I feel like a lot of girls, whether girls are from Europe or Asia, can get direct flights, so it’s pretty convenient that way,” Boutier said.

Lee added that while it wasn’t exactly love at first sight, it eventually won her over.

“Initially, that, but it kind of grew on me, so I really love the city,” Lee said. “Obviously, Frisco is really cool and vibey.”

The vibes are certainly good in Frisco this weekend, as major championship golf is where it belongs.
