HOUSTON– 1, 000 active service participants of the united state armed force will remain in Houston from November 5 to November 12 for a large event of the Army– or “Fleet Week.”
The Port of Houston transforming basin is where some of the army ships could be anchored during Fleet Week. At the Port, KHOU 11 News talked to United States Navy leaders about what the first-ever Fleet Week will look like in Houston.
“This is an absolutely fantastic experience to bring a new Fleet Week to a city and to a town that doesn’t normally connect with the USA Navy,” United States Navy Captain Seth Eisenmenger claimed. He’s the lead planner for the U.S. Navy’s Fleet Week Houston.
Three vessels will be arriving with 1, 000 members of the U.S. Navy, Marines and U.S. Shore Guard. Fleet Week will also be an opportunity to celebrate the Marine Corps’ 250 th wedding anniversary.
It’s an opportunity for Houstonians to find out about the armed forces and the other way around. Activities during Fleet Week will consist of ship tours, community service projects and institution check outs.
Second Class Petty Officer Raheem Richardson concentrates on school gos to.
“We might have the [Explosive Ordinance Disposal] team type of show what the robotics do, what it resembles to kind of be behind the machinery of managing a bomb device, we may have the K- 9 device do demonstrations,” Richardson said.
He stated it is an excellent chance to display what the Navy does and could pique the passion of future sailors.
“Having these conversations with students permits the pupils to sort of really get a peek into the life of a Navy sailor,” Richardson adds.
With all the fun comes intending behind the scenes. On Wednesday, Cpt. Eisenmenger claimed his planning team is consulting with Mayor John Whitmire’s office to discuss their abilities, procedures and logistics.
