Katy ISD board approves raises for teachers and staff

The increases go into effect in the upcoming school year.

KATY, Texas — The Katy ISD school board has approved raises for teachers and staff for the next school year.

Teachers with up to four years of experience will get a $2,500 raise. Those with at least five years of experience will get a $5,000 raise. Other staff members, including custodial, transportation, and cafeteria workers, will get a 3% raise.

Here’s the complete breakdown from a news release Katy ISD sent out Monday night.

  • 1st – 2nd year classroom teachers will receive a $2,500 stipend. That will come from the district’s general operating fund.
  • 3rd – 4th year classroom teachers will receive a $2,500 increase, which comes with the passage of House Bill 2.
  • 5th year and beyond classroom teachers will receive a $5,000 increase, which is also through House Bill 2.
  • Custodial, transportation, cafeteria workers, clerical and other support staff will receive a 3% increase. This is funded by both House Bill 2 and the district.
  • Instructional coaches, assistant principals, principals and other schoolwide administrators will receive a 3% increase, funded by Katy ISD.

“This plan is about valuing every member of our staff, and especially our much sought after teachers, whether they’re just beginning their careers or have dedicated decades to public education,” said Katy ISD Board President Lance Redmon in a news release. “Our Board believes that recruiting and retaining high-quality educators and staff is essential to student success. We’re proud to invest in our people in a way that reflects that belief.”
