The westbound lanes of I-10 at Wilcrest Drive reopened at 12:45 p.m. after a police investigation.
HOUSTON — UPDATE: The freeway reopened at 12:45 p.m.
A major closure is impacting traffic on the Katy Freeway on Wednesday.
According to Houston TranStar, all westbound mainlanes and frontage road lanes of I-10 at Wilcrest Drive are currently shut down as police investigate a scene at the location. The closure was verified at 11:35 a.m.
Both the left and right shoulders are also blocked, leaving no westbound lanes open through the area.
Alternate routes for drivers
Motorists heading west on I-10 should expect significant delays and consider these options:
- Exit before Wilcrest: Use the Beltway 8 feeder or U.S. 59 as alternate corridors westbound.
- Use Westpark Tollway: Drivers closer to the Galleria or Westchase areas can take Westpark Tollway westbound as a parallel option.
- Take Memorial Drive: For local traffic, Memorial Drive can serve as a surface street alternative to reconnect with I-10 farther west.
What drivers should know
- Avoid the area if possible — heavy backups are likely.
- Allow extra travel time if you must use the Katy Freeway.
- Stay alert for law enforcement and traffic crews working at the scene.
Looking ahead
No estimated time for reopening has been given as police continue their investigation. This story will be updated once the westbound lanes at Wilcrest reopen.
