Hyperbaric chamber fire kills Lake Havasu City resident in Arizona

The deceased person has been identified as a 43-year-old resident of Lake Havasu City.

LAKE HAVASU CITY, Ariz. — A 43-year-old man sustained fatal injuries Wednesday when a “flash fire” occurred inside a hyperbaric chamber in Lake Havasu City.

City officials said the Lake Havasu Fire Department responded to reports of a burn patient shortly before 11 p.m. in the 1800 block of Mesquite Avenue.

The 911 caller told officials that a person inside a hyperbaric chamber had sustained burn injuries. Upon arrival, crews found smoke and an intact hyperbaric chamber that appeared to have experienced a fire inside its chamber.

The person inside was pronounced dead and has been identified as 43-year-old Walter Foxcroft of Lake Havasu City. No other injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Hyperbaric chambers can be used to administer oxygen therapy when treating a variety of health conditions.
