After a woman was sexually assaulted in Houston, another says the same man seen in police video tried to break into her home months earlier.
HOUSTON — A woman who lives about a mile from the site of a reported sexual assault in southwest Houston believes she is a victim of the same man.
The alleged sexual assault happened last week at an apartment complex on Edloe Street, near West University Place. Police said a man broke into a woman’s apartment, assaulted her and robbed her.
Days after police released video of the suspect, another woman, who lives at an apartment complex on Buffalo Speedway, came forward with her own story.
Although she declined to be interviewed on camera, she shared surveillance video with KHOU 11 News that appears to show the same man on her property on four separate occasions over two months.
According to the woman, he tried to open her patio door and at least in one visit, she said he appeared to be watching her through a window.
She said she filed reports with police after the incidents but did not receive a follow-up.
Neighbors at the second complex said they are shaken.
“When I saw the video, I couldn’t believe it,” said resident Amy. “That footage was taken right across from where we live.”
Another neighbor, who did not want to be identified, said the fear is especially strong for women living alone.
“If there was information about incidents before, it seems there could have been investigations and he could have been caught sooner. Unfortunate to think of the women involved in this situation,” they said.
Law enforcement officials are sharing tips for concerned residents to follow.
“We cannot message this enough, doing logical basic things, locking doors and setting your alarm if you have one,” said Harris County Pct. 1 Constable Alan Rosen.
Rosen also advised residents to invest in door reinforcement hardware and to ensure that apartment complexes are well lit and monitored.
Houston police are investigating both incidents but have not confirmed whether the cases are connected.
Police are still reviewing surveillance footage from both locations. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Houston Police Department or Crime Stoppers.
