HPD: Crash involving Houston police unit sends 3 to hospital

A Houston police car and a truck collided, sending three people to the hospital with minor injuries.

HOUSTON — Three people were taken to the hospital after a Houston police unit collided with a truck in northeast Houston Sunday afternoon.

According to HPD, a two-person patrol unit was heading south on Wayside Drive with lights and sirens activated, responding to an emergency call, when a truck pulled out in front of them from a stop sign at Joy Street.

The two vehicles crashed at the intersection.

The impact sent the patrol car onto the northbound sidewalk, while the truck came to a stop in the southbound lanes.

Both HPD officers were transported to the hospital by ambulance with minor injuries. The driver of the truck was also taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

HPD Investigators are working to find out whether intoxication played a role in the crash. Police said several beer cans were seen scattered on the street near the truck.

The investigation is ongoing.
