HPD: Car got stuck under 18-wheeler on North Freeway

Police said the driver of a Lexus told them he had tried to swerve out of the way of something on the freeway when he ended up wedged underneath the 18-wheeler.

HOUSTON — A North Freeway driver is lucky to be uninjured after an evasive maneuver ended with his car stuck underneath the trailer of an 18-wheeler early Wednesday morning, according to the Houston Police Department.

The crash happened shortly after 1 a.m. on the northbound lanes of the North Freeway. HPD said the crash started on the North Freeway near the North Loop and ended near Crosstimbers.

Police said the driver of a Lexus told them he had tried to swerve out of the way of something on the freeway when he ended up wedged underneath the 18-wheeler. The driver of the 18-wheeler was unaware that the Lexus had gotten stuck and kept driving until police said a witness flagged them down and got them to pull over.

Somehow, no injuries were reported in the crash.

After the 18-wheeler pulled over, the front of the Lexus caught fire. The Houston Fire Department was called to the scene and HPD said the fire was put out quickly.
