Houston’s Juneteenth parade to honor former Mayor Sylvester Turner

The parade will take place in Acres Homes and begin at 10 a.m.

HOUSTON — Former Houston Mayor and U.S. Representative Sylvester Turner will be honored in this year’s Acres Homes Juneteenth Parade.

The parade will be Saturday at 10 a.m.

Houston’s own Bun B will be the grand marshal of the parade and Turner’s daughter, Ashley Turner-Captain, will be on hand.

The parade starts at the Acres Homes Multiservice Center and ends on Dolly Wright.  People are encouraged to line up along West Montgomery to witness marching bands, dance teams, classic cars and so much more.

Turner died on March 5 as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives, serving District 18. That’s the seat held by longtime Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee before her death last year. Turner served two terms as mayor of Houston before being elected to Congress.

If you can’t make it out there, we’ll be streaming the parade live on KHOU 11+.
