Houston woman arrested after police say she left 5 kids in hot car

Domonique Lenise Wilson is charged with five felony counts of child endangerment after police said she left the kids alone in a car with no AC.

HOUSTON — A home daycare operator was arrested after police say she left five of her clients’ children alone in a hot car.

Dominique Wilson, 37, is charged with five felony counts of child endangerment.

Witnesses told KHOU 11 that Wilson took her own two children inside a Kroger on Telephone Road on Friday, August 1, but left the other kids in the car.

“There were five children in danger, who were found red-faced and in distress, crying with the window barely cracked and the car not running,” the magistrate said during Wilson’s first court appearance. “That is a very dangerous situation.”

A Kroger employee noticed the kids, so she grabbed two of them and rushed inside the store, according to a witness.

“I came across the cop and I saw the Kroger manager running with two kids, one on her arm and another one in a carrier, running, screaming for the officer, ‘I just found these two kids in the car with no AC on,'” the witness said.

Jasmine, who didn’t want to show her face on camera, said an associate then screamed for help and said the suspect claimed the children were hers and the AC was on in the car.

“The manager kept insisting it wasn’t on, the babies were sweating,” Jasmine said. “I’m happy because it could’ve been worse,  so I’m really glad the manager took action and she took those babies out.”

It’s not clear how long the children were in the car or whether it was locked.

Temperatures were near triple digits on Friday.

Police and first responders rushed to the scene, but we don’t know if any of the children were hospitalized.

If Wilson makes bond, the judge said she can’t supervise children under 17.
