According to a post by Sheriff Ed Gonzalez at a little after 6 a.m., the closure will last three to four hours.
HOUSTON — There’s a big traffic tie-up you’ll want to avoid if you’re coming in on the northwest side of town.
A truck fire has all main lanes of Highway 290 shut down eastbound at Highway 99. Shortly after 6 a.m., Sheriff Ed Gonzalez posted on X that it’s expected to be closed for hours.
According to Gonzalez, a FedEx truck caught fire and was fully engulfed in flames by the time deputies arrived. The driver was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
Gonzalez said there were no hazardous materials inside, but continued that “due to the continuous re-igniting of the back trailer, the estimated time of freeway shutdown is 3-4 hours.”
Drivers are being forced to exit Highway 290 at Becker and taking the feeder road to get around the wreck.
Becker heading westbound is also shut down.
