Drivers on the Southwest Freeway are facing delays after emergency road repair work shut down multiple lanes Tuesday afternoon.

Houston TranStar reported the issue just after 1:30 p.m. on U.S. 59 outbound near Beltway 8 South. The two left lanes were closed as crews worked to make repairs. One lane remained open.

Traffic is backing up in the area, and drivers are urged to use caution and consider alternate routes.

Texas Department of Transportation officials said they expected the repairs to last until 5 a.m. Wednesday morning. They said crews had to remove damaged concrete and pour new concrete to fix the issue before the road is reopened.

This is a developing story. We’ll add more details as we learn them.
