Houston traffic delays after crash on Beltway 8 North

Two people were taken to the hospital. Photos show the Harris County Sheriff’s Office SUV wrecked.

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas — A major crash involving three vehicles, including a marked Harris County Sheriff’s patrol unit, caused big traffic delays Friday afternoon on Beltway 8 North at Hollister Road in northwest Harris County.

According to Lt. Terry Garza with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, the crash happened along the North Sam Houston Parkway West and prompted an emergency response. Officials tell KHOU 11 that two people were taken to the hospital. A photo from Harris County Constable Precinct 4’s office showed a wrecked HCSO SUV.

We don’t know how the sheriff’s vehicle was involved in the crash.

Pct. 4’s office said there were minor injuries.

“First responders are on the scene,” Garza said in a social media post. “Multiple lanes are affected. Expect delays or find an alternate route.”

A Houston TranStar traffic camera image from the scene showed heavy congestion and emergency lights in multiple lanes of the northbound Beltway at Hollister around 4:42 p.m.

No additional details about injuries or what led to the crash were immediately released.

Drivers are urged to avoid the area as crews work to clear the scene and restore traffic flow.
