The Life at Jackson Square apartments and its owners are being sued due to an alleged nuisance of crime in the past year. The owners just responded this past week.
HOUSTON — An apartment complex in Meyerland is facing a lawsuit over allegations of nuisance crime and unresolved security issues.
KHOU 11 reported on a similar lawsuit against the owners of 1901 Richmond, another complex in the Montrose area.
Living in the Life at Jackson Square apartments means you have to tolerate it, according to resident Marquise Thomas.
“One month you might not have air, one month you might not have heat, it’s constant emails all the time,” Thomas said.
He’s also aware of the crime issues at the complex.
“On TV…you see this dead body found here, the police running in this apartment or that apartment, you literally never know what you’ll get or what you’ll wake up to,” Thomas said.
As part of an initiative to target nuisance apartment complexes, the City of Houston sued the owners and the real property, seeking to stop the nuisance.
One resident said she sees crime regularly in the year she’s lived there.
“Homeless people walking through here kicking in people’s doors. They just need to clean it up quick so our kids can be safe and safe to come outside,” she said.
The lawsuit claims the seriousness and frequency of crimes occurring on the property over the last year are concerning to Houston police. The lawsuit cites some of the most grievous crimes, including two murders on Oct. 12, 2024, which left one woman dead and one on May 28, 2024.
Other crimes listed between 2023 and 2025 include aggravated robberies, aggravated assaults with a deadly weapon, discharge of a firearm and others.
The lawsuit states the property is not patrolled by security officers and has all of its vehicle and pedestrian gates inoperable. The city is asking for the property to be closed for one year.
“It’s good in a sense that hopefully these apartments get their act together, but what about the residents?” Thomas asked.
Attorneys for the owner and property responded to the lawsuit, denied the allegations in the lawsuit, demanded proof and also stated the claims by the city have no merit.
Residents like Thomas said they are hoping for change soon.
“Please help. Because the people that are here, they ain’t doing nothing,” Thomas said.
