Houston police searching for answers after deadly Highway 6 shooting

Houston police are investigating a late-night shooting near Highway 6 and Westheimer that left one young man dead and two others injured.

HOUSTON — A late-night shooting along Highway 6 in west Houston left one young man dead, another critically injured and an innocent driver hurt by flying glass, according to police.

Investigators said the shooting happened just before midnight Monday in a parking lot near Westheimer, where a group of young people had gathered moments before gunfire erupted.

Officers arrived to find a man in his late teens or early 20s dead at the scene after he was shot multiple times, police said.

Another young man was also hit several times and taken to the hospital in critical condition.

Police said a third victim, a woman who was driving home through the area, was hurt when a stray bullet shattered her car window and sent glass into the vehicle. Investigators said she is expected to be okay.

Houston police are still trying to determine where the gunfire came from and whether the shooting was a drive-by or involved someone inside the parking lot opening fire.

No suspect or vehicle information had been released as of Tuesday morning.

Anyone with information that could help investigators is urged to contact Houston police or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
