Houston partnership could bring back historic short flight

A new partnership could pave the way for electric air taxis between Houston airports, with Ellington Airport as the testing ground.

HOUSTON — A historic short flight between two Houston airports could be back in the cards thanks to a new partnership.

Wisk Aero and Signature Aviation, a fixed-based operator of hangar space and maintenance services for private aircraft, have signed a memorandum of understanding to develop infrastructure and an operational framework for Wisk’s autonomously operated electric air taxis. Signature has outposts at George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH), William P. Hobby Airport (HOU) and Ellington Airport.

Wisk, which is a subsidiary of Boeing, has already made inroads in Houston’s airspace thanks to MOUs with Houston Airport System and the city of Sugar Land. However, the Signature partnership will allow Wisk to focus on evaluating air traffic and infrastructure factors specific to Ellington Airport compared to larger airports, Emilien Marchand, vice president of ecosystem partnerships at Wisk, told the Houston Business Journal.
