A Houston man dies after being pulled from Galveston waters despite rescue efforts.
GALVESTON, Texas — A man from Houston died Sunday morning after being pulled from the water in Galveston, according to Galveston Beach Patrol.
The 55-year-old man went missing near 31st Street and Seawall Boulevard.
According to officials, the man had been boogie boarding with his wife when the couple began feeling tired and tried to return to shore. While the woman made it safely back to land, she lost sight of her husband and immediately called 911 around 8:35 a.m.
Multiple agencies, including Galveston Island Beach Patrol, Galveston Fire Department, Galveston Police Department, Galveston EMS and the U.S. Coast Guard, responded to the scene and launched a search.
At around 9:09 a.m., rescuers found the man on the west side of Tower 24, near the head of a jetty. He was brought to shore, where first responders began CPR.
The victim was transported to the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB), where he was pronounced dead at 9:49 a.m.
Officials have not released the man’s name, and no additional details were immediately available.
The incident remains under investigation.
