Houston ISD announces ‘Project Safe Start’ partnership

Houston ISD said “Project Safe Start” is a partnership aimed at increasing security presence on campuses.

HOUSTON — The Houston Independent School District on Thursday is set to announce “Project Safe Start,” a partnership aimed at increasing security presence on and around campuses.

The announcement is scheduled for 10 a.m. at HISD Police Headquarters. Speakers will include HISD Police Chief Shamara Garner, Houston Police Department Executive Assistant Chief Alvaro Guzman, METRO police, and community ministers.

The district said they will discuss security measures on campuses intended to provide “a safe, secure learning environment on and around school campuses as students and teachers return for the 2025-2026 school year.”
