Houston Community College rebrands as Houston City College

The 55,000-square-foot park takes over an entire second story.

HOUSTON — Houston Community College officially will be known as Houston City College. 

The college’s board of trustees voted 6-3 to authorize the rebranding during the board’s regular meeting June 18.

HCC administrators had been mulling the name change since August 2024. The new name, which drops “community” from the institution’s brand, is intended to better reflect the school’s expansion into bachelor’s degree programs.

Chancellor Margaret Ford Fisher led the effort to change the name, saying in August 2024 that the move was “critically important” and could boost enrollment in four-year programs and improve the school’s public image, Houston Landing reported in November.

The switch to Houston City College will better represent the school’s addition of baccalaureate degrees in artificial intelligence, robotics and health care management. The institution also plans to add three new baccalaureate degrees: business management and two new credentials for its cybersecurity and nursing programs.
