Houston Can Blitz launches to speed up trash can replacements for residents

Houston’s Can Blitz launches Friday, promising faster delivery of new or replacement trash cans for residents needing curbside waste service.

HOUSTON — Mayor John Whitmire is kicking off a new “Can Blitz” program aimed at getting Houston residents quicker access to new or replacement trash cans. It starts Friday.

The initiative, led by the Solid Waste Management Department, promises a more streamlined process for those needing updated city-issued black bins.

Trash can relief on the way

According to the city, Can Blitz is designed to help residents who’ve experienced delays or difficulty replacing broken or missing city trash cans. Under the new program, people can request a replacement and expect a faster turnaround time, thanks to dedicated teams focused specifically on resolving these requests.

How it works

Houstonians can take advantage of Can Blitz by contacting the department and following the outlined process to get a new or replacement trash can for their curbside pickup. City officials hope the program eases frustrations and improves service for neighborhoods across Houston.

Residents with questions or needing to request a can can reach out to Houston’s Solid Waste Management directly. The city aims to make the process as convenient as possible for all eligible households.
