Harris County residents report feeling, hearing explosion

Residents in northeast Harris County reported a loud, house-shaking boom, but investigators found no explosion evidence.

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas — Residents in northeast Harris County reported feeling and hearing a loud boom on Tuesday. Some said they thought it was an explosion.

There were reports about it in several communities — including Atascocita, Kingwood, Humble, Huffman and Crosby. Some residents said it shook their houses, while others said they heard something that sounded like an explosion.

The Atascocita Fire Department said it was responding to reports of an explosion on Burle Oak Drive, but Air 11 video didn’t show anything in the area.

AFD posted this message at 11:30 a.m.: “AFD is aware of multiple calls regarding what sounded and felt like an explosion. AFD did an extensive drive-through of the area, but no indications were found of whatever it was that may have caused an explosion.”

AFD also reported a gas leak about two miles away from where they got the report of the explosion, but it’s unclear if the two incidents are related.

Harris County Precinct 4 officials said they received reports of an explosion, too, but we’ve been unable to find where it could have come from.

Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez posted to X, saying they think the loud boom that sounded like an explosion is associated with a “community education class hosted by a local fire department.” He also referenced the Burle Oak address that AFD previously reported.

This is a developing story, and we’re working to gather more information. When we get updates, we’ll post them in this article.
