'Growing concerns': APD arrests 7 in Mueller shoplifting blitz

AUSTIN (KXAN) — The Austin Police Department said it made multiple arrests Monday during a shoplifting blitz operation.

According to APD, the operations were in the Mueller area “amid growing concerns from the businesses regarding retail crime.”

APD said officers made arrests of repeat shoplifting offenders at three locations.

At H-E-B/Twin Liquors Mueller, located at 1801 East 51st St., APD said four people were arrested. Those arrested face charges ranging from Theft by Shoplifting, a Class C misdemeanor, to Theft by Shoplifting with two prior convictions, a State Jail felony.

Two people were arrested at Marshalls and Old Navy, located at 1201 Barbara Jordan Blvd., and faced charges ranging from Request to Apprehend – Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle and Theft by Shoplifting with two prior convictions—both State Jail felonies.

APD said it made an additional arrest at a Home Depot located at 1200 Barbara Jordan Blvd. That suspect faces a charge of Theft by Shoplifting with two prior convictions.

“This operation was designed as an ongoing effort to assist local retailers with shoplifters by conducting swift apprehensions and taking appropriate enforcement action,” APD said.
