Gov. Abbott to hold flood response conference in San Angelo

SAN ANGELO, Texas (Concho Valley Homepage) — Texas Gov. Greg Abbott is set to hold a briefing and press conference in San Angelo on July 17 to discuss Texas’ continued response to recent severe flooding in the state.

The conference is scheduled to occur at 2 p.m. Concho Valley Homepage will livestream the conference, which will be available for viewing in the video player above once the conference begins.

Abbott will be joined by Senator Charles Perry, Representative Drew Darby, Texas Division of Emergency Management Chief Nim Kidd, Tom Green County Judge Lane Carter, San Angelo Mayor Tom Thompson, San Angelo Fire Department Chief Patrick Brody and other state and local officials.

The conference is held in the wake of the July 4 floods, which have resulted in more than 130 confirmed casualties across Texas as of the time of publication. Dozens of people remain missing, and thousands of structures were damaged or destroyed by the floodwaters.

Tom Green County was among the counties affected by the historic floods, with San Angelo, its county seat, receiving rainfall totals of up to 14.46 inches, as recorded by West Texas Mesonet weather stations in and around the city on July 4. One person died in San Angelo due to the flood, and a Tom Green County citizen was confirmed dead in Kerr County.
