AUSTIN (KXAN) — Texas flags will be lowered across the state until next week to honor those who have lost their lives in floods that impacted the state over the weekend.
At least 119 deaths have been confirmed in six counties. Gov. Greg Abbott said Tuesday afternoon that 161 people are missing in Kerr County alone. Overall, at least 172 people remain missing.
Here’s what we know about some of the victims.
Abbott ordered that flags of the State of Texas be lowered to half-staff statewide, “to assist in mourning, remembrance, and recovery from this terrible disaster.”
The flags are to remain at half-staff until sunrise on Monday, July 14, per Abbott’s order.
The governor encouraged individuals, businesses, and other entities to also lower their flags until Monday, out of respect and remembrance.
