A man was shot by a Galveston police officer during a traffic stop on 55th Street near Avenue O. He was taken to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
GALVESTON, Texas — A man was shot and killed by a Galveston police officer on Monday afternoon.
The Galveston Police Department posted an update on social media around 7 p.m., saying the incident happened around 3:45 p.m.
They said it happened during a traffic stop on 55th Street near the intersection of Avenue O.
Investigators said a person in the vehicle that was being pulled over was shot by an officer. They said the man was taken to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead.
“Our thoughts are with everyone impacted by this incident,” Chief Doug Balli said. “We will provide additional information as soon as it is appropriate to do so without compromising the investigation.”
The officer who shot the man was placed on “modified duty” as an investigation takes place.
