The suspect was not injured and later taken into custody, police say.
FRISCO, Texas — Police are investigating after an officer shot at an armed man Wednesday amid an hours-long standoff in a field in Frisco.
Police were called about a welfare concern shortly before 11 p.m. and found the subject of the call, a man later identified as Aaron Bylund, 45, in a field on the southeast corner of Preston Road and PGA Parkway shortly after midnight, according to a press release.
Frisco police say a drone confirmed Byland was armed with a handgun. Byland was also charged with possession of child pornography in another Frisco police case, officials say.
Byland allegedly threatened officers and pointed his gun “in multiple directions” over the course of the next hour, police say. Preston Road was shut down in both directions as officers tried to negotiate with him, according to the press release.
Byland allegedly “used a laser sight on his pistol to target” an officer, who shot at him, but didn’t injure him, police say.
Byland put down his weapon around 5 a.m. and was taken into custody by Frisco SWAT without incident, officials say.
Medics took Byland to a local hospital because he was “highly intoxicated,” according to police, and he was taken to the Frisco holding facility after he was released, according to the press release.
Byland was charged with aggravated assault on a public servant, which is a felony punishable by five to 99 years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000, officials say.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
