Just in time for Juneteenth, the Tobin Center will come alive this Wednesday with Freedom’s Song: A Journey Through Gospel Radio, an event that honors the power of gospel music in Black history. Freedom’s Song brings together music, collective memory and a greater understanding of the Civil Rights Movement. Providing more than just a chance to raise voices in worship, gospel performances and radio stations were tools of resistance and hope, playing a crucial role in disseminating information about protests, gatherings and calls to action through coded messages and specific songs.
