The 66-year-old suspect said the victim and he were longtime friends and she had lived with him for about a year, according to police.
FORT WORTH, Texas — Fort Worth police have arrested a man who reportedly confessed to strangling a woman to death in his kitchen and dumping her body over a bridge, officials say.
According to a police affidavit, the victim, 57-year-old Rana Soluri, was reported missing by her coworker on June 11, nearly three months after anyone last saw her. The last person to see her alive was 66-year-old Dennis Day, with whom Soluri had lived with for the past year, and who says he was a longtime friend with Soluri.
When first talking with police, Day reportedly told them he hadn’t seen Soluri since March and had been moving her belongings into a storage unit, the affidavit details, but police noted he didn’t seem to express any concern about her. They also learned she had bought a car about a week before she disappeared.
On June 23, according to the affidavit, police say they searched video surveillance at Day’s home and found a clip of Day dragging what appeared to be a lifeless body into his backyard. Day initially denied any involvement, but eventually confessed that he had strangled Soluri on the kitchen floor and dragged her body to the backyard before realizing he was being recorded.
After disabling his surveillance equipment, he reportedly told police he loaded Soluri’s body into a large black trash bin and took her to a bridge near Bowie, where he disposed of her body.
Police searched several bridges and areas near Bowie, the document states, but were unable to find Soluri’s body.
White was charged with murder. Jail records show his bond has been set at $200,000.
