Fort Worth ISD board of trustees voted to rename Cesar Chavez Elementary School at Tuesday night’s meeting.

FORT WORTH, Texas — Fort Worth ISD board of trustees voted to rename Cesar Chavez Elementary School at Tuesday night’s meeting.

As WFAA previously reported, cities across North Texas began reconsidering honors to Cesar Chavez after an investigation from the New York Times alleged sexual abuse at the hands of the activist.

The new school will be named Esperanza Elementary School. According to the meeting, community members choose the new name.

“Esperanza” translates from Spanish to English as “hope.”
