A former Birdville ISD teacher turned himself in to police after allegedly engaging in an inappropriate relationship with students, the district said in a letter.
DALLAS — A former Birdville ISD teacher who was employed at Haltom High School is in jail after allegations that he engaged in an inappropriate relationship with a student, according to a letter sent to parents.
The teacher, identified as Joseph Nguyen in jail records, resigned from the district in April, Haltom High School Principal Michell Sheasley said in the letter. The district was notified recently that he turned himself into the Tarrant County Jail amid allegations of an inappropriate relationship with a student, Sheasley said.
The school confirmed there have been no reports of misconduct on campus, and no other students have been identified.
“The safety and well-being of our students are always our top priority, and you can be assured that we acted swiftly once notified and are working closely with the Haltom City Police Department on their investigation,” the letter states.
The district also reported the concern to the Texas State Board of Education and the Texas Education Agency, the letter states.
Nguyen was booked into Tarrant County Jail but has not been formally charged, according to jail records.
