Ford Elementary School evacuated after gas smell reported, Conroe ISD says

“Our Maintenance Department is on site making repairs,” Stewart said. “Students are in shaded areas outside, with drinking water in route.”

CONROE, Texas — The smell of gas prompted a precautionary evacuation of Ford Elementary School in Conroe ISD Thursday morning, the district confirmed to KHOU 11.

Communications Director Andrew Stewart told KHOU 11 the Conroe Fire Department responded to the scene quickly and determined the source of the smell to be an issue with a boiler.

“Our Maintenance Department is on site making repairs,” Stewart said. “Students are in shaded areas outside, with drinking water in route.”

Stewart said the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, Conroe Fire Department and EMS crews were staying at the scene as a precaution.

“There have been no reported injuries, and all students and staff are safe,” he said. “We appreciate the swift response of emergency services and cooperation of our school community.”

Stewart said the district will provide updated information as it becomes available.
