Flooding damages road from Lago Vista to Marble Falls

LAGO VISTA (KXAN) — The road connecting Lago Vista and Marble Falls, FM 1431, suffered major damage after intense flooding swept through Central Texas. The stretch of 1431, just west of Lago Vista, is near Balcones Canyonlands National Wildlife Refuge.

Powerful floodwaters tore entire chunks of asphalt from the roadway, hurling debris and pavement into a nearby creek. Guardrails were twisted and shoved over the edge, now resting on the shoulder below.

Cleanup crews are already on-site, working urgently to make the road passable again. But with damage this severe, it may take time before the route is safe for drivers.

Officials are urging drivers to avoid the area if possible and to seek alternate routes between the two towns.
