Fire burns at Houston recycling center south of downtown

Houston Transtar cameras picked up the smoke billowing into the air.

A fire at a recycling facility on the south side of town is now out.

It was burning at the Holmes Road Recycling Center on Holmes Road near Highway 288. At this point, it’s not clear how the fire started or if there were any injuries.

While it was burning in the 4 p.m. hour, we could see smoke high in the air from our rooftop camera at our studios in the Galleria area.  A Houston TranStar camera near the 610 Loop and Highway 288 also picked up the thick black smoke.

This is a developing story. We’ll add more details as we learn them.
