Father of three killed by lightning while golfing in Texas

41-year-old Spencer Loalbo died in what police called a “freak accident,” after a lightning strike killed him out of nowhere.

DOUBLE OAK, Texas — Spencer Loalbo was golfing with his father on June 8 in Gunter when lightning struck him in what police called a “freak accident,” killing the father of three several hours before storms were expected to hit the area.

“I couldn’t breathe. I just knew,” said his wife, Kaylee Loalbo, describing the moment she learned of her husband’s death.

The couple, who met in college, had been raising three daughters together. Kaylee Loalbo said her husband was known for his generosity — feeding the homeless, donating to those in need and regularly giving rides to strangers without transportation.

“I think that was his way of showing others who Jesus is, and it just came so natural to him,” she said.

Their 8-year-old daughter, Evelynn, described her father as kind and faithful. The pair enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing dress-up together.

“We’d read a little Bible story together and he’d say prayers for me,” Evelynn said. “I know that he’s with God and all of his problems have gone away and he’s really happy. And he still remembers us. And he’s still in my heart.”

Kaylee Loalbo said she hopes sharing her husband’s story will inspire others to follow his example of generosity and faith.

“I hope that they’re encouraged to be more like my husband,” she said.
