Family of murdered Fort Worth flight attendant share memories

Dennis Day told police he “snapped” and strangled Rana Soluri on the kitchen floor of their home, according to court documents.

FORT WORTH, Texas — The family of missing Fort Worth flight attendant Rana Soluri are still hopeful her remains will be found after she was murdered by her roommate.

They describe the 47-year-old as strong, very proud, passionate, witty and adventurous.

Soluri’s family shared that she also loved putting on makeup and recently went on a shopping spree at Sephora. They continued to describe her as a beautiful person inside and out.

Soluri also loved to cook, according to her family. And she was proud to be a Palestinian American. A close relative said Soluri lived life to the fullest and took advantage of every single day.

Now, Soluri’s family say they hope police can find her remains so they can give her a proper burial.

As part of the investigation, Fort Worth police executed a search at the home of Soluri’s roommate, Dennis Day. Homicide investigators say that’s where they uncovered incriminating evidence linked to Soluri’s disappearance.

An American Airlines coworker reported Soluri missing on June 11 after she stopped showing up for work — something her family said was out of character. They noted she loved her job and especially valued the travel benefits.

According to court documents, Day told police he “snapped” and strangled Soluri on the kitchen floor of the home where they lived. Investigators say home surveillance video appears to show him dragging a lifeless body from the house.

Authorities say Day admitted to killing Soluri and dumping her body from a bridge in Bowie. He also reportedly discarded evidence connected to the crime.

During questioning, detectives say Day told them he drove to the I-35 and Pharr Street area in Fort Worth, and that’s where officers say they found even more incriminating evidence.

Police say a search of the storm drains in that area led to the recovery of a black-handled revolver in a black holster.

Detectives wrote in their arrest summary that they learned Rana’s mobile phone pinged a cell tower in the Riverside area of the city. Day told detectives he threw her cell phone in the river not far from the interstate, according to the arrest affidavit.
