ExxonMobil set for demolition of 10-story ‘White House’ office building

ExxonMobil will implode its historic “White House” building on June 21 as part of site updates.

BAYTOWN, Texas —

ExxonMobil will implode its 10-story Main Office Building, commonly known as the “White House,” on Saturday, June 21 at 6:30 a.m. The structure, located at Decker Drive near 330 and Rollingbrook has stood since 1971 and is being taken down as part of the company’s ongoing site updates. The demolition is expected to conclude by 7:30 a.m.

In an Instagram post, ExxonMobil acknowledged the building’s legacy, saying, “We are proud of the building’s decades of service to our company since its opening in 1971.”

For people interested in watching the demolish in person, you are out of luck.

To ensure public safety during the controlled implosion, surrounding roads will be temporarily closed. The company has asked residents to avoid gathering near the site, saying, “To ensure everyone’s safety, public spectating is not recommended.”

There will be no designated viewing areas available to the public, but a video of the event will be posted online afterward.

Leading up to the demolition, ExxonMobil plans to share memories and updates with local neighbors, celebrating the building’s role in company history.

The details of the demolition came after the company auctioned off the chance for one person to symbolically “push the button” that triggers the implosion.

The auction occurred on May 10, at the ExxonMobil’s booth at Rotary’s Shrimp & Catfish Festival. The winner of the “push the button” auction has not been released.
