Ex-La Marque city manager faces felony charges after arrest

The criminal charges against Joshua Pritchett mark the end of a controversial time as city manager.

GALVESTON COUNTY, Texas — The former La Marque city manager is waiting to face multiple charges in court after his arrest. Joshua Pritchett was arrested on multiple felony and misdemeanor charges, just days after he resigned from his job.

The resignation comes after scrutiny from the La Marque Police Department and his former employer. Pritchett was brought back to Galveston County after his arrest on Saturday, July 19.

According to the La Marque Police Department, Pritchett was arrested in Rockwall County. The 36-year-old was arrested on multiple outstanding warrants, including first-degree felony arson, third-degree felony tampering with physical evidence, misdemeanor false report to a peace officer and two counts of fraud.

On July 3, an investigation began after the fence around Pritchett’s home was set on fire. A message was left in graffiti saying “Lowry rules,” referring to La Marque city councilman Joseph Lowry. Police later alleged Pritchett committed the arson.

On July 7, Pritchett resigned from his position, which he only held for only two months. He had served as interim city manager since January.

In a resignation letter, Pritchett states he faced “a long history of harassment, retaliation, stalking, and direct threats.”

According to La Marque police, they are investigating Pritchett over allegations that he lied on his resume about military service and his college education.

“It appears at this point that it’s definitely been a misrepresentation, our sergeant is working with the DA’s office,” Police Chief Randall Aragon said at the time of the resignation.

Pritchett was arrested in a traffic stop in Rockwall County in the Dallas area and was brought back to Galveston County on Saturday, but has since bonded out. KHOU 11 News reached out to Pritchett’s attorney for comment and we are waiting to hear back.
