DESOTO, Texas — A former substitute teacher at DeSoto ISD was arrested for having an improper relationship with a student and sexual assault, jail records show.
The school district said in a statement that it was notified in December 2024 of an alleged “inappropriate incident” involving substitute teacher Bryson Newton, 23. DeSoto ISD said it immediately removed Newton from all assignments and banned him from returning to any campus within the district.
“In alignment with our legal and ethical obligations, the district filed all required reports,” DeSoto ISD said in the statement. “These steps reflect our zero-tolerance stance on any misconduct involving students and our steadfast partnership with investigative authorities to ensure accountability to the fullest extent of the law.”
According to an arrest report obtained by WFAA, a DeSoto police officer was flagged down by Newton in the 700 block of E Beltline Road at around 5:46 p.m. on March 18. The report stated that Newton told the officer he wanted to turn himself in, and after a query was completed on him, confirmation came back for warrants.
Jail records show that Newton was arrested on two warrants for an improper relationship between educator/student and sexual assault of a child. Newton was transferred to the Dallas County Sheriff’s Department the next day.
This is a developing story. WFAA will update this article with the latest information.
