Property management at The Life at Sterling Woods claims they notified residents about elevator repairs. The timing caused issues for one resident.
HOUSTON — An elderly woman says she needed to be carried downstairs while the elevator in her building was down. For weeks, we’ve been telling you about elevator problems in complexes across the Houston area. We spoke to a resident at a senior living apartment complex who is demanding to know when the elevator in her building will be fixed.
One resident at The Life at Sterling Woods apartments says the elevator in her building has been out for weeks. Management on site says it was a planned repair, but the timing of it is causing issues.
“We need to get to our doctors to get water and food and stuff,” said Cheryl Lawrence. Moving around is hard for her.
Two days ago she was taken to the hospital, but an elevator problem paramedics with no choice.
“One in the back pulling me down and one in the front helping me. That’s hard, it’s heavy, I know it is. That was the only way they could get me back up and down,” Lawrence said.
Outside the first floor elevator doors we found tools but no workers, so we went to management.
A property manager on site tells KHOU 11 they put notices on residents’ doors about planned maintenance starting June 16, a notice that Lawrence says she never saw.
An elevator repair crew was on site Tuesday, but a manager told KHOU 11 repairs won’t be finished until July 3.
Lawrence, who tells us she’s also waiting on additional repairs inside her unit, is frustrated.
“I don’t know what to do, just praying and hoping we can get our elevators fixed so we can get up an d down,” Lawrence said.
I also reached out to property management company Asset Living’s corporate office, and we are still waiting for a response.
As for what prompted the maintenance work, the manager says it was planned after an elevator in a different building was broken down for months.
